How to grow your very own Vampire Plant
Step1: Empty the Spagnum moss into the pot and thoroughly wet the moss, using rainwater, distilled water or filtered water.
Step 2: Sprinkle the seeds on the surface of the moss and lightly press and smooth the surface with the back of a spoon to ensure the seeds have good contact. Check seeds stay on the moss and not on the back of the spoon! Do not bury the seeds. It is a good idea to record the date of sowing.
Step 3: Sarracenia seeds germinate best if you mimic their winter natural habitat. Therefore, cover loosely with a clear plastic bag and place in the refrigerator (not freezer) for 4 weeks.
Step 4: Remove from the refrigerator and place the pot on a small saucer part filled with water and continue to cover it with the plastic bag. Keep this in a warm, bright location away from direct sunlight at an ideal temperature of 20*C (70*F).
Step 5: Remove the plastic bag when first seedlings appear (6-8 weeks), and continue to add water to the saucer to ensure the plant does not dry out. Never water from the top of the plant.
Step 6: Once the young pitcher plants are formed, they can be transferred to larger 7.5 cm pots to prevent overcrowding. Each year the traps die down, but will grow bigger the following year. In winter the plant becomes dormant, so reduce watering to prevent rotting and keep it just damp in a cool place with no central heating.
